Mario Lizza
Mario Lizza, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 10, 1926 in San Giovanni, Italy. He was the son of Giacomo and Addolorata Lizza.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Adelina, two brothers Giovanni and Beniamino, and 2 sisters Francesca and Rosa.
Mario was a master tailor. He started sewing at the age of 11 and opened his own tailor shop at the age of 16. He was a member of the Italian military and an extremely talented soccer player.
He fell in love and married his wife Adelina in November 1950, and they had 3 sons. Mario wanted only the best for his wife and boys, so he left Italy and made the journey to America to begin a new life, filled with opportunity. The Lizza family arrived in 1967 and prospered. Mario was the manager at Republic Sportswear and then Union Apparel in Norvelt for many years. He was an active member in the Sons of Italy Giuseppe Mazzini Lodge #231, and an Usher at St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mario touched the lives of those around him, and was affectionaly known as ‘Pappy’ to all. He was a handsome man, complete with honor, pride and strong religious faith. His smile and laugh were infectious and though he was tiny, he was a giant of a man, filled with love and passion.
He is survived by his three adoring sons and their families: Anthony M Lizza and wife Judith of Scottdale and their children; Mario and wife Jennifer, Tony and wife Kristin, Gina (Lizza) King and husband Jason; John C. Lizza and wife Betsy of Uniontown and their children; John and fiancée Kelly, and Adele (Lizza) Dean and husband Jeremiah; Walter J. Lizza and wife Amy, and their sons Dante and Cameron; great -grandchildren Sophia, Tony, and Giovanni; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received in the THOMAS M. DOLFI FUNERAL HOME 136 N. Gallatin Avenue Uniontown, onThursday September 6, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.,Friday, September 7, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday until 9:15 a.m. at which time a blessing service will be held by MSGR Michael W Matusak, V.F. Followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery.
The Sons of Italy Giuseppe Mazzini Lodge #231 will conduct services on Thursday September 6, 2012 at 7 p.m.
A Parish wake service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 3 p.m.
