Fayette TV honors first responders
Earlier this summer, Fayette TV had the honor of spending time with some of our county’s most heroic individuals at the 2012 Fayette County Fireman’s Association convention.
While we sleep in peace, the men and women of our local fire departments often leave the safety of their homes and families, and put themselves at risk to protect their neighbors.
Since 1939, the Fireman’s Association has promoted and unified the firefighting organizations of Fayette County. Its goals include working toward safe and efficient firefighting, conducting schools of instruction, advocating for beneficial legislation, honoring deceased firefighters and providing a Death Benefit Fund.
Like the association’s first convention 73 years ago, this year’s gathering, hosted by the Farmington and Hopwood Volunteer Fire Departments, allowed the group to reorganize for the year ahead, celebrate past achievements and honor and memorialize local heroes. Just as important, sporting events and competitions permitted members of each fire unit to meet and share fellowship with each other.
We hope you enjoy Fayette TV’s video montage from the convention, which includes scenes from the ultra-competitive Tug of War battle and high-energy Fire Truck Pull. Plus, watch some potential “future heroes” in the Youth Pedal Power event.
Many thanks to Uniontown City Councilman Gary Gearing, who reached out to us to serve as the exclusive sponsor for Fayette TV’s convention coverage. Without his support, our broadcast would not be possible. Thanks also to Chief Brian Van Sickle, who gave us a warm welcome onto the Farmington VFD property for the convention. Fayette TV appreciates the sacrifices of all of our first responders, and, as always, we appreciate you, our viewers!
