Uniontown house condemned for deplorable living conditions
A house in Uniontown was condemned Friday after the city’s code enforcement officer investigated a call of suspicious activity and found deplorable living conditions inside.
Mark Pasquale, city code enforcement officer, said when he arrived to investigate, the odor from the house at 42 Lenox St. could be detected from outside, and that the inside was full of maggots, feces, animal waste, garbage and rotting food.
Pasquale said the duplex is a rental house and the only tenant, an unidentified woman living upstairs, was in the process of moving downstairs.
“The prior tenants contributed to the problem” before moving out, Pasquale said.
Pasquale said K2 Engineering Inc. of Uniontown, the city’s engineering firm, was contacted, as well as the landlord. The decision was made to condemn the house, and the tenant was able to recover personal necessities before being removed to the home of a family member.
Two dogs also were found living in the residence, and Pasquale said a neighbor volunteered to care for them.
