William E. Mock ‘Bill’
William “Bill” E. Mock, age 61, of Clarksville, Pa., and formerly of Ebensburg, Pa., died Thursday, September 13, 2012 from injuries sustained in a coal mining accident in the Blacksville No. 2 Mine of Consolidated Coal, Blacksville, West Virginia.
He was born April 13, 1951 in Johnstown, Pa., the son of the late William R. Mock and Lucy (Mangus) Mock of Munster, Pa., who survives.
Mr. Mock graduated in 1969 from Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg, Pa.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves where he served as a 1st Sergeant for over 18 years and was attached to the 485th Chemical Battalion in Johnstown, Pa.
He was an underground Coal Miner for over 37 years working for Bethlehem Mines, Mine No. 31 in Nanty Glo, Pa., Eighty Four Mining Company, Zediker Station Portal and lastly for Consolidated Coal in Blacksville No. 2.
Mr. Mock was a member of the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel in Loretto, Pa., the United Mine Workers of America, the National Skeet Shooting Association, the P e n n s y l v a n i a S k e e t Association and Washington County Sportsmen’s Club.
He enjoyed NASCAR and World of Outlaws Spring Car Racing.
He had a passion for skeet shooting in which he was a Pennsylvania Chief Referee for Sanctioned Skeet Shooting Events and also a Master Referee for the World Skeet Shoot held in San Antonio, Texas.
On August 3, 1974, William married Barbara R. (Koegler) Mock, who survives.
Also surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are two daughters: Beverly Rathbun and her husband Edward of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Patricia Dean and her husband James of Rices Landing, Pa.; a son, Darrell Mock and his wife Heather of Monessen, Pa.; six grandchildren: Mitch Proctor, Melayna Jyachosky, William Rathbun, Damian Swarrow, Lucas Swarrow and Zander Swarrow; three brothers: Paul Mock of Munster, Pa., Pat Mock of Munster, Pa., and Charlie Mock of Loretto, Pa.; four sisters: Carol Malone of Colver, Pa., Christine Alvarez of Ebensburg, Pa., Cathy Byrne of Ebensburg, Pa., and Mary Driskel of Loretto, Pa.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Monday, September 17, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA 15313 (724.632.5454).
Visitation will continue on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the GIBBONS FUNERAL HOME, 1688 Liberty Street, Ashville, PA 16613 (814.944.7646).
A Vigil Service will be held in the Gibbons Funeral Home on Tuesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the BASILICA OF SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL, 321 Saint Mary Street, Loretto, PA 15940 with Reverend Father Allen Zeth as Celebrant.
Interment will be private.
