Wharton Township supervisors seek ATV use in state forest
FARMINGTON — The Wharton Township supervisors on Monday said they sent a resolution to the state township supervisors association asking for state permission for off-road vehicle use in state forests.
The resolution from the Fayette County association of Township Supervisors asks the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) for support in asking the Legislature to pass a law or direct the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to designate trails in state parks for all-terrain vehicles (ATV) and snowmobiles.
Jim Means, chairman of the board of supervisors, said solicitor Ricard Cicconi prepared the resolution and it was sent to PSATS earlier this month.
The resolution comes after a group of residents asked the supervisors to allow ATV use on township roads in August.
Means said the resolution does not seek to legalize ATV use on roads.
