Charges dismissed in robbery, assault
All charges were dismissed Tuesday against a man who police allege assaulted and robbed his girlfriend in Uniontown on Aug. 14.
Uniontown police Officer Jeremy Schult said Macvellan James Hinton, 24, of Uniontown was charged before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros with robbery, simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property and harassment.
Metros dismissed all the charges against Hinton after the alleged victim, Tamara Hall of Uniontown, took the witness stand during the preliminary hearing and told Fayette County Assistant District Attorney J.W. Eddy that she couldn’t remember anything.
When Eddy supplied her with the written statement she provided to police, she said she didn’t remember writing it.
According to Schult, the charges were filed after Hinton assaulted and robbed Hall around 2:20 a.m.
He said that Hall and Hinton were arguing at a location on Liberty Street, and during the fight, Hinton slammed her into a fence and knocked her to the ground.
He then punched her repeatedly and also kicked her in the ribs, Schult said.
Hall told police that she was able to break free from Hinton, and ran to a neighboring porch where Hinton followed her and assaulted her again.
After knocking her to the ground, Hinton stole $300 from her pockets and then fled the scene in Hall’s car, Schult said.
Officer D.J. DeWitt spotted the stolen car moments after the altercations and stopped the vehicle on Dunlap Street, where Hinton was taken into custody without incident.
Hall was treated for injuries to her head and abdomen at Uniontown Hospital.
