Ray Edwin ‘Eddie’ Moser
Ray Edwin ‘Eddie’ Moser, age 84, a life-long resident of Smithfield, Pa., passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at his home.
He was born at Smithfield, Pa. on April 20, 1928, a son of the late Samuel G. Moser and Jessie Shaffer Moser.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Ashton Moser on June 10, 1993 and a step-daughter, Donna Jean DeCarlo Morris in September of 1991.
Mr. Moser was a local business man having begun in business at the Feed Store in Pt. Marion, Pa. many years ago and later was the owner and operator of Moser’s Market in Smithfield, Pa. for many years.
Mr. Moser and his wife, Mary, enjoyed their winters in Texas and Florida where he was an avid golfer. He was a 40 year member of the Fairchance Duck Pin Bowling League. Mr. Moser was an honorary member of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a former member of the following organizations: Smithfield Senior Citizens Club, Elks Club, Moose Lodge and Eagles, all of Uniontown and the Smithfield Rotary Club.
Mr. Moser was also a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Navy and belonged to the VFW Post 47 of Uniontown, Smithfield American Legion, and the Hopwood AMVETS Post 103.
He is survived by one son, William ‘Bill’ Moser and wife, Karen, of Smithfield, Pa.; step-daughter, Jacque Merryman, and husband, William, of The Villages in Florida; two grandchildren, J. R. Moser and wife, Stephanie, of Williamsburg, Va. and Allison Moser, with the Pa. Army National Guard, currently attending Flight School at Fort Rucker, Enterprise, Alabama; four step – grandchildren, Jayme Suecevie and husband, Paul, Jill Newcomer and husband, Jeff, Sherry Morris and Leslie Morris; two twin great-grandchildren, Adeline and Nora; one step – great – grandchild, Thomas Suecevie; one sister, Ruth Wise, of Smithfield, Pa. and one brother Jesse ‘Bud’ Moser of Masontown, Pa. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Moser’s family will receive friends in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD, PA., today (Friday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday until 2 p.m. when services will be conducted with Rev. Jay Hurley, Pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make contributions to the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 261, Smithfield, Pa. in Mr. Moser’s memory.
S.V.D.F. members will pay their respects this evening at 7:30 in the funeral home.
Full military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.
