DUNBAR — A fledgling non-profit organization geared toward the fellowship of senior citizens ages 50 and older will hold its first official meeting from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rendu Services on Pechin Road in Dunbar.

The recently formed Loving Hands Senior Center group is looking for members to share its interests as it gets off the ground.

“We want to be an outreach in the community,” said Norman Gordon, who helped organize the group.

Gordon added the group plans to discuss activities, games, drinks and food at the meeting to get a better perspective on their interests.

Gordon, who also serves as president of Dunbar Borough Council, said the idea for the group developed about three months ago when he was approached by senior citizens suggesting the need for a place to gather.

“There’s a big interest in it,” said Gordon.

Gordon said he presented the idea to Rendu Services, which offered to help.

Rendu provides a variety of community services throughout Fayette County, such as a mobile health van and food bank.

“They’re helping us get started by using their facilities and expertise,” said Gordon. Gordon said about 40 people initially met at the Dunbar Community Library and he anticipates more at Rendu.

“We may need a bigger place,” added Gordon.

According to Gordon, the group will participate Saturday in the 11th annual Dunbar Community Fest parade and have a table set-up.

For more information, call Gordon at 724-366-0173 or Rendu Services at 724-277-8680.
