Fayette County unemployment rate fell in February
Fayette County’s unemployment rate fell significantly in February due to a drop in the labor force and a smaller increase in employment, according to the latest report from the state Department of Labor and Industry.
The county unemployment rate decreased to 8.9 percent, which remained the highest in the Pittsburgh area labor market and higher than the statewide rate, from 10.3 percent in January.
A decrease in the labor force, the number of people looking for jobs, by 500 from 65,400 in January to 64,900 in February and an increase in employment by 200 people from 58,700 to 58,900 lowered the number of unemployed from 6,700 to 5,800.
