A Uniontown man is behind bars after police allege he used a belt to beat a 9-year-old girl at a Uniontown residence Tuesday.

Errik Wade Parks, 43, of Rear 50 Lawton Ave. was charged with simple assault, harassment and recklessly endangering another person following the incident.

According to Uniontown police Lt. Thomas Kolencik the charges were filed after Park beat his girlfriend’s daughter with the belt at his residence.

Kolencik said that the child had welts, bruising and swelling on her right hand, right forearm, right thigh, buttocks and back.

The child was taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment, Kolencik said.

Parks was placed in Fayette County Prison following his arraignment Tuesday evening and will face a preliminary hearing at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
