Jack J. Sabo
Jack J. Sabo, age 85 a lifelong resident of West Brownsville, Pa. passed away and went home with his Savior, Jesus Christ, while he was surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.
Jack was born on March 7, 1928 in West Brownsville, Pa., son of the late Kellamen (Kelly) and Mary (Beck) Szabo.
He was a member and Usher for St. Thomas Aquinas R. C. Church in California, Pa.
Jack graduated from Brownsville High School Class of 1946. He received a Masters Degree in Education from California State Teachers College and the University of Pittsburgh.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951 serving with the 7th Cav. Regt. as a SFC.
Jack was a School Teacher at Ringgold School district for 35 years. He was a Member of the West Brownsville Fire Dept. and the American Legion Post 940 of West Brownsville, Pa.
Jack was the West Brownsville Borough Secretary for 52 years and the Council Chambers were named in his honor as the Jack J. Sabo Council Chamber.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
His favorite sport was to hunt Ruffed Grouse with his beloved Bird Dog Holly and hunting ground hog with his grandson Ryan.
He was a lifetime member of the NRAJ
Jack was also a Handyman for his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was prede-ceased by brother Alex Sabo and Sister Helen Matyi.
Left to celebrate his life are his beloved wife of 61 years, Veronica Pauline (Hudock) Sabo; His two sons, John G. Sabo of Blainesburg and Ronald V. Sabo and wife Cindy of Brownsville, Pa.
Jack was the proud grandfather of 3 Grandchildren: Jenna Stump and husband Shawn, Ronald K. Sabo and companion Ashlee DeBord and Ryan M. Sabo. Also surviving is a sister Rose (Szabo) Morosky of Richeyville, Pa.; His extended family Maryann Kubacki and children Maria and George, Richard and Georgetta Staley and son Richard and wife Jess; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME 135 Park St. Brownsville, PA on Saturday and Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. Where a prayer service will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas R.C. Church in California, PA with the Rev. Fr. Michael Zavage and Rev. Fr. Tim Whalen as Co-Celebrants.
Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Posts 295, 940, and 838.
The West Brownsville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will conduct services on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
