With only a few days into the Give-A-Christmas campaign, donations have already started rolling in.

Herald-Standard readers have already contributed $700 to the campaign, which was launched on Thanksgiving Day.

Of that amount, $640 was collected on Monday.

The latest donations came from Hopwood, Brownsville, Uniontown, Newell, New Salem, Masontown, Dunbar, Elco, Grindstone, Connellsville, Carmichaels and Greensboro.

Betty J. Barnes, who gave in memory of her neighbor who died in May, wrote, “Dear Sparkle and friends, I wish to send all my prayers and a blessed Christmas season to you and all those who help. I’m praying that you will receive the $40,000, plus a lot more, for those who need help at this blessed season.”

This is the 28th year for Give-A-Christmas, which provides money for the Salvation Army to carry out its mission of helping those in need.

Funds are distributed to branches of the Salvation Army in the Herald-Standard readership area.

The money that readers give is given to the branch of the Salvation Army that serves the area where they live, but readers can designate their funds go to any of the branches.

There is no sharing of funds.

“God bless Sparkle and all that are helping the needy once more,” wrote Patsy and Sara Petro.

Other donors included the Juniata Methodist Church Women in Masontown; Juniata United Methodist Church in Dunbar; Rebekah Circle of Calvary United Methodist Church; Steve and Linda Evon of Elco; Barbara Hoferer, who gave in memory of her beloved husband Frank Hoferer, Frank and Helen Hoferer, Henry and Freda Festog, Henry Festog Jr., Dr. Clarence R. Kelley and Gene and Jackie Festog; Rose and Jack Pringle; Joe Catalano, who gave in memory of his wife Mary Catalano; Sister Terri Erjavec and niece and nephew Destiny and Darren Osborne in memory of Fawn Erjavec who died May 4 at the age of 49; Ginnie McVey who gave in memory of Larry McVey, Inez Thomas and Jaci Roby; Carol Fabriziani who gave in memory, of her decreased family member and in honor of her grandchildren Gage, Kane, Kasey and Alissa; Dolores Gerald Elliott; Nora Doyle, who donated in memory and honor of Gerald A. “Jerry” Doyle, William H., Margaret Martin and family, Lillian Vorrasi and Geri Lynn Doyle; Sally Leaphart; Ronald Gaydos; Pam and John Barnhart. Donations will continue to be received until noon Dec. 23.

The final amount will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard. Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, PA 15401 or brought to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Sparkle cans also have been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
