M. Dennis Taylor, age 67, Greensburg, Pa., passed away peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2013 after a valiant three year battle against lymphoma and leukemia.

‘Denny’ was born in Connellsville, Pa., the son of the now late Merle and Margaret Taylor formerly of Ohiopyle, Pa.

He graduated from South Union High School Class of 1964 and from West Virginia University in 1968 with an Electrical Engineering Degree.

‘Denny’ was a record holding pitcher for the WVU Mountaineers baseball team and later played Minor League with the Chicago Cubs.

He had retired from Allegheny Energy after 36 years of service. Before retirement he held positions ranging from Engineer to Director of Support Services.

He was an avid sports man, enjoying fishing, hunting, golf, skiing and boating.

He coached for ten years West Point softball winning several regional and state titles.

He was a member and Elder of Maplewood United Presbyterian Church, past Board Member of BBBS Laurel Region, and a Charter Member of the Jockey Hollow Boat Club.

‘Denny’ was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He was a beloved husband, father, step father and the best Pappy to his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; a daughter, Mindy (Mike) Martinelli; grandson, Dominic Michael; grand daughter, Sofia Taylor Martinelli; his step children: Alicia (Kevin) Laskey and Eric Bell; his brother, Dick (Dot) Taylor; nephew, Matt (Kari) Taylor; niece, Macey Taylor; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins

Denny’s family wishes to thank the doctors and the nursing staff at the Hillman Cancer Center, UPMC Shadyside Hospital 7 West and Arnold Palmer Medical Pavilion. A special thanks to the Frick Hospital Short Stay Unit Nurses, Westmoreland Hospital E.R. and the I.C.U staffs and Dr. Ralph and Billie Miranda and their staff.

Honoring Denny’s wishes, there will be no public viewing.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Denny’s life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the MAPLEWOOD UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 108 Woodland Road, Greensburg, Pa., with Rev. Steve LaSor as celebrant. Please omit any flowers.

Denny’s family requests memorial donations to either the Maplewood United Presbyterian Church or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Laurel Region, 106 North Main Street, Greensburg, PA 15601.
