The Mountain Weatherman: Rain Now, Snow Later
We enjoyed a mild spring like day here in SW Pennsylvania yesterday while the western two-thirds of the country shivered under a huge arctic air mass. The high yesterday was 58, the 24 hour low 29 and at 7am we were 48 degrees under cloudy skies. There was no precipitation. We’ll be cloudy and very mild again today with rain moving in from the southwest this afternoon. That rain will continue into Friday evening when it will change to snow as the cold air filters in behind a slow moving cold front. We could get 2 to 4 inches of snow in the mountains by Saturday morning. Our next storm quickly moves in from the south on Sunday bringing snow changing to sleet and freezing rain by Sunday night. That freezing rain could last into Monday for the mountains so be prepared for the power outages that may bring.
