Give-A-Christmas fund continues to rise
Monetary support for the Salvation Army is growing as Herald-Standard readers continue to donate to the annual Give-A-Christmas campaign.
Readers gave $630 on Friday, bringing the total to $7,265.
This is the 28th year for Give-A-Christmas, which provides money for the Salvation Army to carry out its mission of helping those in need.
Funds are distributed to branches of the Salvation Army in the Herald-Standard’s readership area.
The money that readers give is given to the branch of the Salvation Army that serves the area where they live, but readers can designate their donations go to any of the branches.
There is no sharing of funds.
On Friday, donations came from readers living in the Uniontown area. Donors included the Fayette County Food Service Association; Doris Gismondi; the Martha Champion Class of Great Bethel Baptist Church; Bob and Mary Ann Lindsay, who gave in loving memory of Jiggsy Shaffer, Julie Swartz and Dorothy Zebrasky; the Interfaith Assembly for Christ who gave in memory of deceased members; and mother Betty Poole and children Genae, Taryk, Sharlyn and nephew Terrell who gave in memory of Darnell Poole.
The final amount will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard. Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, PA 15401 or brought to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Sparkle cans also have been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
