Parks, recreational projects receive grant funding
DUNBAR — State Sen. Richard A. Kasunic, D-Dunbar, has announced a total of more than $180,000 in state grant funds for two local parks/recreational projects.
“These state funds will help local and community leaders move forward on plans to improve the attractiveness, access and use of these parks and recreational areas,” Kasunic said. “I will continue to seek state dollars for worthy local projects.”
The projects include:
n Fayette County will receive $150,000 to further develop its the Sheepskin Trail in Point Marion and Springhill Township. Work will include constructing about 1.4 miles of trail from Point Marion through Springhill Township to the West Virginia state line, trail head and comfort station in Point Marion, access for those with physical disabilities, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
n Jefferson Township will receive $30,000 to rehabilitate Jefferson Township Park. Work will include rehabilitating of the ball field, dugouts; paving of parking area; installation of fencing, scoreboard, access for those with physical disabilities, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
The Key 93 and Environmental Stewardship Fund grants were awarded through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
