The Give-A-Christmas campaign is gaining momentum as the holiday fund surpasses $7,600.

Herald-Standard readers donated $337 on Sunday, bringing the total to $7,602.

Ron and Bonnie Rifenburg of Uniontown who donated to the campaign, wrote a message to Sparkle, the campaign’s mascot, saying, “God bless your efforts to help those in need.”

This is the 28th year for Give-A-Christmas, which provides money for the Salvation Army to carry out its mission of helping those in need.

Funds are distributed to branches of the Salvation Army in the Herald-Standard’s readership area.

The money that readers give is given to the branch of the Salvation Army that serves the area where they live, but readers can designate their donations go to any of the branches.

There is no sharing of funds.

Jean Grover of Dunbar wrote, “God bless you for all your love and concern for others.” She gave in memory of her father, Albert Young, her mother, Winnie Young, her sister, Darlene Young, and brother, Bill Young, and in honor of her children Debbie, Joyce, Tom and Rob.

Donations also came from Brownsville, Smithfield, Point Marion, New Salem and Grindstone.

Other donors included, Charlotte Drylie, who gave in memory of parents Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Currie, husband Nelson Drylie and sister Flora Johns; Brenda Hoover Fischer who gave in memory of parents Mr. and Mrs. John Hoover and brother-in-law Paul Johnston; George O’Neal of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747; Kay Menni, who gave in memory of loved ones; William and Terry Ainsley, who gave in memory of Jim and Nan Gergely and Jeanne and Paul Ainsley; Jean Claar; Sandy and Dee Howell who gave in memory of brother Tubby, Al and Jim Howell, Lynn, Wilbur and Bill Lenhart, and sisters Olive Johnson and Betty Chrzaszcz, and parents Ralph and Veta Howell and Alva and Ellen Lenhard; Donna Mehalek, who gave in memory of her husband Joe Mehalek; Callahan Real Estate; and William Bentz Sr. and family.

The final amount will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard. Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, PA 15401 or brought to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
