Give-A-Christmas nears $10,000 mark
The Give-A-Christmas fund is nearing the $10,000 mark as Herald-Standard readers donated $840 more to the campaign that benefits the Salvation Army.
Today’s total stands at $9,868.
Donations came from readers in Uniontown, Farmington, Masontown, McClellandtown, Newell, Keisterville, Perryopolis, East Millsboro and Mount Braddock.
“It’s wonderful to see so many areas represented,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is mascot for the campaign. “Remember, the contributions are given to the local unit of the Salvation Army in the area where the donor lives so you are helping your neighbors. But you can designate your contribution goes to any of the Salvation Army units in the Herald-Standard readership area. We want to raise $40,000 during this year’s campaign.”
Sparkle also received some nice notes with the donations.
“Good luck with your campaign. God bless everyone who gives,” wrote Marge Dugan of Farmington.

“Give-A-Christmas campaign: Even though we no longer live in our hometown of Keisterville, we feel strongly that the Give-A-Christmas campaign that benefits the Salvation Army is worthy of our continued support. It is our prayer that you reach your campaign goal to continue serving those in need. We would like to designate our gift go to the Albert Gallatin Service Center that includes Keisterville. May you all have a blessed, merry Christmas,” wrote Lois and Frank Smoley of Willoughly, Ohio.
“How wonderful to receive these kind thoughts and wishes,” said Sparkle. “They make me hopeful that we will reach our goal. But remember that we only have a short time to collect donations and a long way to go.”
Contributions will continue to be received until noon Dec. 23. The final amount will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.
