A South Union Township woman suffered injuries today when she was struck by a vehicle while walking near the intersection of Morgantown Street and Fayette Street in Uniontown.

Uniontown police Officer John Kauer said the crash occurred when Herald-Standard feature reporter Frances Borsodi Zajac was walking back to the newspaper office after conducting an interview at a local church. Kauer said Zajac was attempting to cross Morgantown Street when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Elizabeth Giachetti of Uniontown.

Kauer said that Giachetti had a green light while traveling east on Fayette Street and was attempting to turn left onto Morgantown Street when Zajac stepped into traffic.

Zajac was taken to Uniontown Hospital by Fayette EMS for treatment of minor injuries. Giachetti was not injured, Kauer said.

Kauer said that Zajac suffered a broken ankle and injuries to her back.

Zajac, has worked as a reporter for the newspaper for 35 years, focusing on religion and features.

Uniontown police and firefighters joined emergency personnel from Fayette EMS and the state police at the crash.
