Give-A-Christmas fund keeps rising

By Frances Borsodi Zajac fzajac@heraldstandard.Com 2 min read

Just a week before Christmas Day, the Give-A-Christmas fund now stands at $14,104 after Herald-Standard readers donated another $840 to the campaign that benefits the Salvation Army in this area.

“I must admit I’m a little concerned about reaching our goal of raising $40,000 this year, but I am so grateful for every contribution that our readers make to this fund,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the mascot for the campaign. “The donations come from readers who really care about their neighbors and want to help.”

The latest contributions came from Brownsville, McClellandtown, Lemont Furnace and Uniontown.

They included some nice notes.

“Good luck in reaching your goal,” wrote Cheryl Miller Arshen of Uniontown, who donated in memory of her husband Bill Arshen and the deceased members of the Miller and Arshen families.

“Dear Sparkle, Hope that this donation helps bring a lot of smiles to a lot of little faces,” wrote Fred and Bobra Michotte of Uniontown.

“Best wishes for another successful year,” wrote anonymous in McClellandtown.

“I do hope it’s a successful year,” said Sparkle. “But remember that we only have until noon on Monday to reach that goal. Won’t you help?”

Today’s other donors include Barbara Ann Cavalcante, in memory of Barbara L, Mike, George, Mike Jr. and James Cavalcante and Sassy, Doodle, Penni and Orangie – all in doggie and kitty heaven, Brownsville; Leroy Bair, in memory of Henrietta Bair whose birthday was Dec. 25, Brownsville; Brandon and Olivia Crutchman, in memory of Thomas and Victoria Barkett, Ira and Kathryn Crutchman and Thomas Broskey Sr., Lemont Furnace; Richard and Launa Tate, McClellandtown; Sandra Hardy, Uniontown; her children, in memory of Honey Lou Robinson Strange Gonzales, Uniontown.

Contributions will continue to be received until noon Dec. 23. The final amount will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.

Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, PA 15401 or brought to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Sparkle cans also have been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
