Texas-based Mattress Firm opening today at former Ponderosa site

Mattress Firm, a Houston, Texas-based national bedding retailer, opened its newest store outside of the Uniontown Mall in South Union Township today.
The 5,889-square-foot store is located at 525 W. Main St., the site of the former Ponderosa Steakhouse that was in business there for nearly 40 years.
Renovation work began in the fall, and the Mattress Firm sign was placed on the building Thursday.
“We are thrilled to be opening a new location in Uniontown and look forward to offering our customers the same great shopping experience they have come to expect at our other locations throughout Pennsylvania,” said Steve Stagner, Mattress Firm president and CEO.
“Our goal is to make the experience of shopping for a new mattress as simple and rewarding a process as possible, and with our unparalleled selection and knowledgeable staff, we will do just that.”
The store will open seven days a week 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.
Mattress Firm sells traditional and specialty mattresses from manufacturers such as Sealy, Serta, Simmons and Tempur-Pedic and bedding accessories. The store’s “Comfort by Color” design allows customers to compare different styles and brands based on the comfort level of the mattress.
The company has more than 1,100 stores in 30 states including 10 in Pennsylvania.
