Holiday fund surpasses $22,000
As donations continue to pour into the Herald-Standard office, the Give-A-Christmas campaign grows closer to its goal of $40,000.
“I have the greatest appreciation for everyone who has given so much so far,” said Sparkle the Christmas star, the mascot for the campaign.
“But there are only a couple days left until I reveal the final total. Remember that any little bit you can give will help the Salvation Army.”
Herald-Standard readers donated $1,320 on Friday, bringing the holiday fund total to $22,244.91.
Joy and Kelly Huston of Uniontown wrote, “Dear Sparkle, please accept this gift in memory of our brother and uncle Scott W. Gnagey and dear friend Tammy Rice. Thanks for you all you do.”
Donations also came from Brier Hill and Merittstown.
This is the 28th year for Give-A-Christmas, which provides money for the Salvation Army to carry out its mission of helping those in need.
Funds are distributed to branches of the Salvation Army in the Herald-Standard’s readership area.
The money that readers donate is given to the branch of the Salvation Army that serves the area where they live, but readers can designate their donations go to any of the branches.
There is no sharing of funds.
Other donors included, Alisa Rolaf; Mary and Ken Allison; Elizabeth Swartz; Jim and Becky O’Neil; Loretta Platos, who gave in memory of John Platos, Michael and Pauline Sandala and John and Adda Platos; and Amanda and Gregg Maruca Jr., who gave in memory of their grandfather Frank Maruca.
The final amount will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.
Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, PA 15401 or brought to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Sparkle cans also have been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
