Applause — Roy C. Bowlen
The Education Council of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce honored Roy C. Bowlen of Lemont Furnace as Student of the Month for November.
A junior at Laurel Highlands High School, Bowlen is involved in school activities that include cross country and track. He was chosen to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Washington, D.C., as an honoree representing Laurel Highlands High School, Pennsylvania and the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). Additionally, he attended the Outdoor Odyssey Summer Leadership School and the Shenandoah Valley Cadet Officer Leadership School.
Outside of school, Bowlen is involved in various community activities with the Air Force JROTC program, in which he serves as the flight commander. In JROTC, he has received the Air Commando Association Award and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Award. He also has experience job shadowing with the FBI and Dr. Angela Braun and Dr. Evan Braun.
Bowlen plans to attend college to study biochemistry or engineering with the goal of having a military career. He is a son of Roy and Michelle Bowlen.
