Two jailed in fight over barbecue sauce

1 min read

A Denbo couple is behind bars after police say they got into a fight over barbecue sauce on Christmas Eve.

Tracy Lee Giffin, 42, and William Edward Balas, 56, were each charged with simple assault and harassment following the condiment confrontation.

State police Trooper Marc Ziegler said that the altercation began when Giffin got angry with Balas for not bringing home barbecue sauce from the store.

Ziegler said that Giffin bit Balas on the nose and the hand and that Balas responded by striking Giffin in the eye.

When police arrived around 11 p.m., they found both Giffin and Balas injured and took them into custody without incident.

Balas and Giffin were placed in Washington County Prison on $5,000 straight cash bonds following their arraignments Christmas morning.

They will face preliminary hearings at 10 a.m. Jan. 7 before Magisterial District Judge Joshua P. Kanalis.
