Man shot and killed by police following attack

By The Associated Press 1 min read

MOUNT PLEASANT(AP) — A witness says a state trooper fatally shot a man after the man stabbed the officer with scissors when police confronted him for shoplifting at a shopping plaza East Huntingdon Township.

Reports indicated that a cashier at the Save-a-Lot store called police Friday morning when the man began eating and drinking snacks without paying.

When police arrived, the man stabbed one in the troopers in the head with scissors and several shots were fired as the incident spilled into the parking lot of the Crossroads Plaza along Route 119.

Police have yet to detail the incident but have confirmed a trooper fatally shot an assailant at that location before 9:30 a.m. Friday.

A police spokesman says the injured trooper will likely require stitches.
