Harry R. Shaw
Harry R. Shaw, 75, of Vanderbilt, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the home of his son, John Shaw, in Fredericktown, Washington County. He was born December 28, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Jonas and Laura Snyder Shaw.
He had resided in Vanderbilt since 1967 and was a graduate of the former Ramsay High School in Mt. Pleasant with the Class of 1955. Prior to his retirement, he was a diesel mechanic for the State Equipment Co. in Monroeville. He was a veteran of the Navy, having served from 1956 to 1960 and was stationed in New Zealand during Operation Deep Freeze. He was a life member of the NRA and a former member of the former Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Dawson.
Harry will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving children: Mark Shaw of Grindstone, John Shaw of Fredericktown, Jim Shaw and wife, Kelley, of Uniontown, and Karen Schenken of Granville, Ohio; his grandchildren: Joshua, Mark, Eric, Zoe, and Alexander and his great – grandson, Joshua J.
Harry was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis P. Thomas Shaw, whom he married September 15, 1961; a grandson, Brandon Shaw; his brothers Joseph John, Robert James, William, Harman Waddell, Jonas Jr., Edward Charles and Thomas K. Shaw and his sisters, Margaret Bowers, Lorraine Bowers, Grace Zaucha, and an infant sister.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St. Connellsville (724-628-1430) where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Watson officiating. A military service will follow in the funeral home by the Connellsville VFW and American Legion and Trotter American Legion Honor Guard. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
