Mary Virginia Johnson

Mary Virginia Johnson, age 85, of Uniontown, died Saturday evening, January 12, 2013 in the Uniontown Hospital.  She was born September 3, 1927 in Uniontown, PA, the daughter of Emil R. Johnson and Lila Ridgeway Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Frances J. Maust; a brother, Frank K. Johnson and a niece, Jody A. Stanley.

She is survived by a nephew, Mark T. Johnson and his son, Zack Johnson, of San Diego, CA; a niece, Mary K. Schneider, and daughter, Marcie Schneider, of Ocala, FL and great-nephew, Jeff Stanley, of Florida.

Ginny graduated from Uniontown High School with the Class of 1945 followed by Secretarial School in Washington, D.C. After her education she worked for a pattern company in New York City as an executive secretary. When her parents became ill, she moved back to Uniontown. In addition to taking care of her parents, she worked at the Asbury United Methodist Church as the secretary for many years before retirement.

Ginny was for many years an avid tennis players and enjoyed keeping track of the professional tennis circuit. She was a member of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Uniontown, the Uniontown Service League, the Brooks Bird Watching Club, card club and enjoyed quilting, needle point, crocheting and even made many of her own clothes. Ginny also enjoyed going to the Wildflower Festival in Black Water Falls, WV.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA where friends will be received on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the ST. PETER’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, PA from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A service celebrating Ginny’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. John Cruikshank officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.

The family would like thank her caregivers, Elsie, Marie, Denise and Jackie for their care and compassion.
