Woman to stand trial in child abuse case
A Georges Township woman police allege assaulted her 14-month-old son on Dec. 1 will have her day in court.
State police said Jessica Elizabeth Rhodes, 19, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.
Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham held all charges against Rhodes for Fayette County Court following a preliminary hearing held Thursday.
Police said Rhodes became frustrated with her son when he would not stop crying while she was caring for him at her residence in Jarrett’s Mobile Home Park.
Investigators said that Rhodes picked the child up and shook him.
Police said that as a result of the shaking, the boy suffered critical injuries to his brain and required treatment in the pediatric intensive care unit at UPMC-Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Rhodes remains free after posting bond following her arraignment.
