Firefighters battle blaze in freezing temperatures
DUNBAR TWP. — In freezing temperatures, firefighters from numerous volunteer fire departments battled a blaze along Bell Drive in Dunbar Township tonight.
No injuries were reported, but Fayette EMS rehab was there to set up a tent to keep the firefighters warm.
According to Fayette County 911, the fire broke out around 5:33 p.m. in a house located at 219 Bell Drive. Resident Barry Brinker was not inside the home at the time of the fire.
A spokesman for the Morrell Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters had a good supply of water despite the freezing temperatures, and had the fire under control in about 45 minutes.
Because of the smoke, water and fire damage, the house was nearly a total loss, according to the spokesman.
A state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire and will continue his investigation on Thursday.
In addition to Fayette EMS and Morrell Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters from Monarch, New Haven Hose, Dunbar Township and DL&V responded. Perryopolis, Connellsville Township and South Connellsville Volunteer Fire Departments were on standby.
