Evelyn Meloni Comfort

Evelyn Meloni Comfort resided in Connellsville, widow of Joseph J. Comfort.  Evelyn was a graduate of Connellsville High School and Franklin Business College and worked at the Fayette County Court House, both in the Recorder of Deeds Office and the Delinquent Tax Office. She was a secretary and protégé of the late Attorney Anthony Cavalcante.

While her husband was in the Air Force during WWII, she was employed by the War Department in the Finance Office of Goodfellow Field in Texas.

Her other experience included being secretary to the assistant treasurer of the Second National Bank of Uniontown; taking testimony for the National Labor Relations Board in labor discrimination disputes; clerical work in the MH/RR office in Uniontown and secretary-bookkeeper for the Fayette County Association for Retarded Citizen.

She was self-employed as a financial analyst and consultant and was a member of the board of Fayette County Association for Retarded Citizens, the Eagles Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Christian Mothers of St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church of Connellsville and was treasurer of the Women’s Democratic Club in Uniontown and vicinity.

Her late husband, Joe, taught Mathematics in Uniontown High School for many years and was also instructor of mathematics in Penn State University’s Continuing Education Program. He was an alumnus from University of Pittsburgh, University of Pennsylvania, Indiana University, Columbia University, University of Houston and Princeton University.

Her son, J.J. Comfort, taught mathematics in the School of General Education at the University of Pittsburgh. He is an alumnus of Rutgers University and University of Pittsburgh. He retired from a 30-year career as manager, General Electric, Valley Forge, Pa.

Mrs. Comfort was reared by her maternal uncle, Bernado M. Comforti, who was a coal miner and active member of the United Mine Workers of America. Her paternal uncle was a well-known Uniontown restaurant owner and chef.

Mrs. Comfort’s hobbies include cooking, sewing, gardening, and dancing.

Mrs. Comfort is also the widow of her second husband, Joseph A. Amicucci.

She is survived by her son, J.J., and his wife, Jane, of Chambersburg, Pa.

Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME 123 S. 1st St. West Side, Connellsville (724-628-9033) on Thursday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Blessing Service will be held at 11:15 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Rita R.C. Church with Fr. Bob Lubic as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Rita Cemetery.
