Victim and driver in fatal crash identified
Police have released the names of the two people involved in a crash on Ridge Boulevard in Dunbar early Sunday morning that claimed the life of the passenger.
State police said the passenger, Catherine A. Healy, 19, of Acme, suffered traumatic brain injuries and was taken to Highlands Hospital before being life-flighted to UPMC-Presbyterian in Pittsburgh where she was pronounced dead at around 5 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle, Ethan Kenney, 18, of Dunbar, fled the scene after emergency medical personnel arrived but before police arrived, police said. Kenney was located a short time later, police said, and was suspected to be intoxicated. Police said he was taken for testing. Kenney suffered minor injuries, police said.
According to police, the crash occurred at about 4 a.m. when the vehicle Kenney was driving left the road and struck a guardrail. The vehicle continued on to strike a tree, causing it to spin 180 degrees and come to a stop in the road, police said. The roadway was closed for about four hours, police said.
Kenney has been cited for driving at an unsafe speed, and police said the investigation into the matter continues.
