Irene P. (Novak) Riggin

Irene P. (Novak) Riggin, 85, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Uniontown Hospital.

She was born on October 20, 1927 in Uniontown, to Stephen and Mary (Spacék) Novak.

Irene was the last member of her immediate family preceded by her parents; husband Robert Riggin in 1993; a son, Robert, in 1976; a sister, Emily Shoman, and brothers, Louis, Steven, and Rudy Novak.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: son, Rudy Riggin, with whom she made her home; son, Ronald Riggin and wife, Fran, of Chalk Hill, Pa.; daughters, Ruth McCombie and husband, Robert, and Rita Leonard and husband, Bruce, all of Uniontown, Pa.; Renee Ansell and husband, Louis, of Connellsville, Pa. and Regina Hanzely and husband, Daniel, of Uniontown, Pa.

She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, who all brought her much joy and happiness and hope to carry on her legacy: Rhonda, Julie, Bobby, Angie, Billy, Karen, Bruce, Erin, Danielle, Amanda, and Mike and her cherished great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jenna, J. D., Josie, Joshua, Ian, Madison, Blake, William, Briella, Abigail, and Dougie.

With sincere appreciation, Irene’s children and grandchildren thank the staff, nurses, and caregivers of the Golden Living Center and the Uniontown Hospital for their compassion and exceptional care during the last days of her life.

Irene was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and lifetime member of the National Slovak Society Assembly 39. She retired as office manager from the former Hills Department Store after 28 years of service.

She loved holidays and Sunday dinners with her family, ‘the more the merrier’. In later years, her favorite pastime was sitting on her porch with her family drinking coffee, admiring her beautiful flowers, and watching the many beautiful birds at the feeder.

Heaven has gained a truly remarkable, amazing angel, now our Guardian Angel, who will be so very missed by all who loved and admired her.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Thursday, June 13 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday until 10:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday in ST. PETER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 121 Walnut Hill Rd., Uniontown, Pa., with Rev. Bernard Carl officiating. Interment will be held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
