Elmer R. Shipley

Elmer R. Shipley, 84, a longtime resident of Connellsville, passed away peacefully Monday, June 17, 2013 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 10, 1929 in Mill Run, a son of the late Elmer and Cecelia Collins Shipley.
Elmer was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Connellsville American Legion 301.
Prior to his retirement, Elmer worked as a boss at Rack Engineering.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Connellsville.
Elmer loved the outdoors and was a avid, fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He was a member of the Yough Fishermen’s Association for over 20 years and a past scout master.
Elmer will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving family: his wife of 65 years, Verna Flydell Shipley; his son, Barry Shipley and wife, Cookie, of Connellsville; his granddaughters, Mianna Shipley Tamburri and husband, Troy, of Pittsburgh and Tashara Shipley Tucholski and husband, Jake, of White; his great-grandchildren, Easton and Colton Tamburri and Travis, Brianna, Kierstan, and Addisyn Tucholski; his sisters- in- law, Catherine Leonard and husband, Don, of Buffalo, N.Y. and Rachel Pierce of Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Elmer was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was predeceased by his sisters, Alvira Fullem, Violet Hiltabidel Means, Mattie Amanda Bittner and Erma Shroyer and his brother Roy E. Shipley.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville (724-628-1430) where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Will Hough officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Connellsville VFW and American Legion and Trotter American Legion Honor Guard.
