State police investigating accident
BULLSKIN TWP. — State police are investigating a four-car accident Tuesday with a fatality and injuries to two others.
The collision occurred around 3:39 p.m. in front of Green Ridge Cemetery at the intersection of Moyer Road and Route 119 just outside Everson.
Police said Kenneth Wildey, 76, the driver of one vehicle, was killed in the crash. Police said he was not wearing his seat belt.
Police said the drivers of two separate vehicles, Leslie Rechenberg, 28, and Rudoph Angell Jr., 73, sustained moderate injuries. They were flown via medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. Police said Rechenberg was not wearing a seatbelt.
Police said the driver of a fourth vehicle, Karen Osler, 30, was not injured in the collision.
Traffic drew almost to a standstill around that section of Route 119 for more than two hours as first responders did their duty. Traffic in the southbound lane was backed up as far as Kingview Road.
Police said the impact of the collision caused heavy damage to Wildey and Rechenberg’s vehicles.
Patrick Ruck of Moyer Road watched as Bullskin Township and Everson volunteer fire departments assisted police and Fayette EMS. He said there have been multiple wrecks and many fatalities within the past several years along that stretch of highway where the posted speed limit is 50 mph.
“They need to do something about the speed — lower it,” he said. “It’s a race track through here.”
Ruck said his son, Daniel, was killed nearby on Dec. 13, 2000.
“That’s when I started keeping track,” he said. “Route 119 is dangerous through this stretch of Fayette County.”
Scott Maust of Uniontown said he learned to drive on Moyer Road where his dad Carl lives. He said the Moyer Road intersection with Route 119 can be very dangerous. He pointed to how the street sign and stop sign were lying in the grass as a result of the traffic accident.
“People fly in and out of here all the time,” he said.
