One of two sisters charged with assaulting and robbing a North Union Township woman is now facing drug charges after police say they found marijuana plants inside her home at the time of her arrest.

Jenna Shay Boyd, 25, of 303 Easter St., North Union Township, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on June 17.

State police Trooper Brett Massafra said the charges were filed after officers, responding to Boyd’s residence to investigate the robbery of Mary Yourchik on March 22, found eight marijuana plants, a small bag of marijuana and a marijuana pipe.

Boyd, along with her sister, Brittany Joyce Boyd, 24, are each charged with robbing Yourchik, 82, outside the Walmart Supercenter in South Union Township.

Brittany Boyd allegedly approached Yourchik outside of Walmart, pushed her to the ground and stole her purse.

Witnesses said that Brittany Boyd also punched and kicked Yourchik during the strong-arm robbery, police alleged.

He said that other witnesses were able to get a make, model and license plate of the vehicle that Brittany Boyd got into after the robbery and a car where investigators say Jenna Boyd and several children were seated during the robbery. Jenna Boyd turned herself in to police shortly after the alleged incident and faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, theft, endangering the welfare of children and unsworn falsification to police. Brittany turned herself in to police after spending several weeks on the lam.

Police obtained a search warrant for the car the Boyds were traveling in, and inside, allegedly found multiple items from Yourchik’s purse, as well as a bag with hypodermic needles and a receipt from the West Brownsville Walmart for the needles.

Police said the needles were purchased about one hour after the robbery in South Union.

Police retrieved surveillance footage from the West Brownsville Walmart and spotted the suspects on multiple cameras inside the store, as well as in the parking lot.

Brittany Boyd was charged with robbery, theft, access device fraud, endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault and simple assault.

She remains in Fayette County Prison on $50,000 straight cash bond. Jenna Boyd is free after posting bail following the robbery charges.

The sisters still face a preliminary hearing on the robbery charges, and Jenna Boyd will face a separate hearing for the drug charges.
