‘Village post office’ to open in Markleysburg
PITTSBURGH — The Country Store in Markleysburg is joining a growing list of “village post offices” in the U.S. Postal Service’s Western Pennsylvania District.
A village post office is part of the Postal Service’s initiative to provide communities with expanded access to postal products.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at noon today at the Country Store Village Post Office, 4634 National Pike.
The Markleysburg office — with operating hours Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. — offers sales of stamps and accepts pre-paid packages. The office also will carry expedited packaging (free Priority and Express Mail flat-rate boxes and envelopes) for added convenience in mailing packages, the Postal Service said.
The Postal Service said village post offices are operated by local businesses. The village concept was established in response to the changing mailing needs of the American consumer as more and more customers demand easier, more convenient access to postal products and services where they are conducting business in their communities, the Postal Service added.
Phil Zimmerman, district operations manager, will officiate the ribbon-cutting ceremony, with assistance by Country Store proprietor Fred Lint.
