James K. Moyer
James K. Moyer, 84 years old, of Shady Grove, Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 with his loving family by his side.
We have lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle, and all who knew Jim lost a special friend. He touched many lives in many ways throughout his lifetime. He will be missed, but his memory will live on forever in many people’s hearts and never be forgotten.
He was born Tuesday, November 27, 1928 in Mount Independence, Pa. the son of Andrew Curtis Moyer and Mary (Matthews) Moyer.
‘Jim’ was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed frequent rides to his properties in Greene County.
He enjoyed the simple things in life and greatly cherished his family and friends.
‘Jim’ graduated from North Union High School, Class of 1946, where he served as his Senior Class Secretary-Treasurer.
While he was in high school, ‘Jim’ worked at his father’s hardware and feed store in Hopwood. He bought a dump truck and hauled for Eureka Fire Brick Company.
He served Honorably with the United States Army in the Infantry during the Korean War.
He was a member of the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., and North Union Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543.
After his father started the A. C. Moyer Company, ‘Jim’ worked for the company and co-owned it with his brother ‘Bud’ until their retirement.
After retirement, ‘Jim’ continued to stay active in the business by continuing to buy the equipment and keeping a watchful eye on things.
He was also a partner in the Moyer, Moyer, Mechling Land Company
Along with his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, George C. Moyer and his wife Phyllis, and William ‘Bud’ Moyer; a niece, Dr. Kim Karschner; and his stepmother, Erma (Bitner) Moyer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Althea (York) Moyer; daughters: Zelda Moyer of Lemont Furnace and Mona Collins and her husband Jeff of Lemont Furnace; grandson, Brian Cobbs, Lemont Furnace; and granddaughter, Megan Collins, Lemont Furnace. He is also survived by his nephews: Jeffery Moyer of Wind Ridge, Pa., Ben Moyer of Farmington Pa.; niece, Becky (Moyer) Wilcosky of Uniontown, Pa.; sister-in-law, Frances Moyer; brother-in-law, Floyd York; and business partner, Russ Mechling.
Friends will be received at STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown Pa., today (Sunday March 17, 2013) and Monday, March 18, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with the Rev. Terence Teluch and Rev. Dan Brant officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
