Dawson man charged in sex assault of child
A Dawson man is facing charges after police allege he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl in Dawson last summer.
State police said David Stewart, 48, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Dwight K. Shaner with indecent assault following an investigation into allegations that he sexually molested the girl while she was in his care.
Police alleged the assault occurred sometime between June and August, when Stewart removed the child’s clothing and touched her inappropriately.
The Herald-Standard does not identify the alleged victims in sex assault cases.
Last year Stewart was charged with raping a teenage girl at a residence in Dawson on multiple occasions over nearly a three-year period, police said.
In that case, troopers said that while “watching over” the teen at various times when she was between 14 and 16 years of age, Stewart forced her to have sexual intercourse with him.
Police said that Stewart also repeatedly performed other sexual acts with the girl without her consent.
Stewart is slated to stand trial for the alleged rape.
He was placed in Fayette County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bond following his arraignment.
Stewart will face a preliminary hearing in the case before Shaner at a later date for the indecent assault charge.
