State grant to help with fire department merger

1 min read

HARRISBURG — State Rep. Peter J. Daley II, D-California, has announced that the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Co. has been awarded a $3,200 state grant to assist with its merger with the Allenport Volunteer Fire Co.

“The grant helps to pay for the legal, accounting and renaming costs stemming from the merger,” Daley said.

“Even though the name of the merged companies will be the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Company, the shared services come at a cost.”

Daley said the Municipal Assistance Program grant is administered by the state Department of Community and Economic Development and provides 50 percent of eligible costs for shared services, community planning and flood plain-management projects.

The DCED noted that the Allenport company was struggling to continue independently as it faced a diminishing number of volunteers and contributions.
