Veterans being honored by highway naming

1 min read

The Uniontown-to-Brownsville section of the Mon/Fayette Expressway is being named to honor veterans just a few days before Memorial Day.

The 15-mile stretch of road is being named the POW/MIA/KIA Memorial Highway. A private ceremony to officially name the road will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at northbound mile marker 14.2, near Route 119 in North Union Township. According to state Rep. Deberah Kula, D-North Union Township, a public reception will follow at noon at the North Union Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543.

“The road is being named after all our veterans who have served our country with pride and dedication, to honor their service and sacrifice,” Kula said in a prepared release. “The POW/MIA/KIA Memorial Highway will be an acknowledgment that we are eternally grateful for their service to our country.”

Anyone interested in attending the public reception is asked to RSVP to Kula’s office at 724-626-2761.
