Wilker secures Republican nod in Saltlick supervisor race

By Natalie Bruzda nbruzda@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

Gary Wilker defeated Steve Nietfeld by a large margin in the Tuesday primary election to secure the Republican nomination in the Saltlick Township Supervisor race.

Wilker garnered 78 votes while Nietfeld received 38 votes, according to unofficial results from the Fayette County Election Bureau.

Wilker, who is a first-time candidate, said prior to the election that he feels it’s time for a change, and that he would like to improve the township by bringing in new businesses.

Wilker said his experience working for the state Department of Transportation for one year, working mainly with snowplows and trucks, makes him qualified for the post. He also has obtained a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Nietfeld said he would have used his six-year term to focus on further enhancing the county’s zoning ordinances, which the township follows.

Because he secured the Republican nomination, Wilker will now face the lone Democratic candidate, Greg Grimm of Indian Head, in the fall general election.
