Three injured in Connellsville fire
CONNELLSVILLE — Volunteer firefighters said three people suffered injuries when fire swept through two houses in the city early Tuesday.
Firefighters said the fire broke out at 12:39 a.m. at a residence at the corner of North Pittsburgh Street and West Murphy Avenue where a family of three was residing.
As a result of the blaze, a man, a woman and an 11-year-old child each suffered smoke inhalation, emergency officials said.
The man was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC-Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of smoke inhalation and burn-related injuries.
The woman and the child were taken by Fayette EMS ambulances to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville for treatment.
Officials did not identify the family.
The American Red Cross said they assisted the two adults and child with food, clothing and shelter.
Firefighters said that as they attempted to control the stubborn fire, the blaze moved to a neighboring house.
Both houses were destroyed, firefighters said, noting that it took several hours to extinguish the blazes.
Officials said that a total of 10 people living at the two residences were displaced.
The state police fire marshal is investigating what sparked the blaze.
Volunteer firefighters from New Haven Hose Co., Connellsville Township, Morrell, South Connellsville, DL&V, Dunbar Township and Bullskin Township responded to the fires.
