A Uniontown man suffered a gunshot wound to his right wrist early Thursday.

Uniontown police Chief Jason A. Cox said the shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Coolspring Street.

According to Cox, Paul Walden Sr. told police that he and another man he could not identify got into Walden’s vehicle on Austin Street and that while driving in the area of Coolspring and Austin streets he heard gunshots and then heard bullets striking his car.

He continued to try and flee the scene but lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole on Coolspring Street, police said.

He and the passenger then ran from the scene, according to authorities.

Cox said police found Walden in a business parking lot on Connellsville Street with a gunshot wound.

Police found Walden’s vehicle resting against a utility pole on Coolspring Street and found multiple bullet holes in the car, including several bullet holes in the windshield.

Walden was taken by Fayette EMS to Uniontown Hospital and subsequently flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment.

An update on his condition was not available Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.
