Mike Mischisen

Mike Mischisen, age 95, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and formerly of Republic, Pa., passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 in St. Clair Hospital.

He was born November 3, 1917 in Grays Landing, Pa., a son of the late Alex Mischisen and Mary Fall Mischisen.

Mike was a member of St. Mary Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, New Salem, Pa. and a retired coal miner.

He was a World War II Army veteran who was cited for gallantry in action in the vicinity of El Guettar, Tunisia, on March 28, 1943, when wire lines leading to a battalion command post were destroyed by heavy enemy artillery fire. Private Mischisen crossed exposed terrain and, although he was subjected to constant enemy fire, successfully repaired and maintained these communications. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action.

Mike was preceded in death by sisters, Anna Macik and Helen Fierschnaller; brothers, Aleck Mischisen Jr. and Joseph Mischisen and his parents.

Surviving are a sister, Olga Zaucha of Barberton, Ohio and a brother, John Mischisen and wife, Lorraine, of Uniontown, Pa.

Friends will be received in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME, 1 Legion St., Republic, Pa., on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m. when Funeral Services will be held with Rev. Fr. Jerome Botsko officiating. Interment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park where Military Rites will be accorded by Hopwood AMVETS Post 103.
