John E. Bondarenka, age 90, of Kent, Ohio and formerly of California, Pa., died on Tuesday, October 15, 2013.

He was born Thursday, January 18, 1923 in California, Pennsylvania the son of Charles and Josephine Bondarenka.

John worked at Page Wire and Steel for 31 years and 13 years as a Laborer and Custodian at California University of Pennsylvania.

He was a member of the American Legion in West Brownsville and the Eagles Club in California

John was an avid bowler and loved to golf with his good friend, the late Joe ‘Buff’ Horvath.

He enjoyed gardening, camping in Confluence, Pa., and the holidays.

His greatest love, besides his wife, Betty, was spending time with his family. We would be amiss not to mention a pride and joy in his life, their dog Mayla.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley and Charles; and two sisters, Bertha Faber and Mary Bondarenka.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 69 years, Betty (Landman) Bondarenka; children: Patricia Guiler and husband Jack of Ravenna, Ohio and John Bondarenka and wife Marlene, Mogadore, Ohio Also surviving are four grandchildren: Michele Bogo and her husband Michael, Jack Guiler Jr., and wife Juana, Michael Bondarenka and his girlfriend Jen, Mandy Fulks and husband Brad; and nine great grandchildren.

Friends will be received MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, Pa., on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. and until 11 a.m. on Tuesday when Services will be held in the Funeral Home with the Rev. Jana Quisenberry officiating.

Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
