Hester Elizabeth (Frost) Thomas

Hester Elizabeth Frost Thomas, our beloved mother, sister, grand mother, great grand mother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her Mount Braddock home Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the age of 90.

She was born on Friday, January 12, 1923 in Menallen Township, Fayette County, Pa., to Russell and Sarah Elizabeth Hormell Frost.

She graduated from Uniontown High School and then attended the Monongalia School of Nursing in Morgantown, West Virginia.

While working as a Nurse, Hester met and married Arthur P. Thomas in 1944, and together raised five children at their home on Rosy Hill. Hester left her nursing career to raise her children but returned to work for the United States Postal Service where she attained the position of Postmaster of the Mount Braddock Post Office. It was a position that she truly loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur P. Thomas; her parents; and step-mother Jane David Frost.

Above all other pleasure in life, Hester enjoyed people.

She never met a person that she considered a stranger, and anyone who had even briefly met her had a friend for life.

She especially loved cooking for friends and family. Hester was known for her breads, noodles, and pie. She often urged friends to ‘sit a while’ where it was easy to lose track of time while lingering over pie and coffee in her warm and cozy kitchen.

Hester was a deeply faithful servant to God; she found good in every one she knew. With her love, compassion, under standing and generosity, she affected the lives of all who knew her.

Her greatest joys were her children, whom she served and loved unconditionally. Her ultimate contribution was providing for them a model of Christ-like behavior.

She is survived by her five children: Arthur P. Thomas Jr. and wife Rita of Uniontown, Patricia Baugh and husband Charles of Buckeye, Arizona, Carol Thomas of Mount Braddock, Shelly Thomas of Morgantown, West Virginia, Connie Lisa Pritchard and husband Clark, Scottdale, Pa. She is also survived by her sister, Olive Semans of Hopwood, Pa.; eight grandchildren: Jeff Thomas and David Thomas, Matthew Nutt and Amy Nutt Fairfax, Ben Marstiller and Erin Marstiller Winters, and Magnolia Pritchard and Clark Pritchard Jr.; as well as seven great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, dear friends; her faithful companion, ‘my little dog’ Emmie.

Friends will be received at STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown Pa., on Tuesday, October 22, from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Service will be held in Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Roger Richter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful hospice staff at Fayette Home Care, especially Diane Humbert, R.N.
