A California University of Pennsylvania student was arrested on assault charges Saturday.

A university official confirmed that Claudy Mathieu, 20, of Philadelphia was arrested after an incident around 12:40 a.m. Saturday on Third Street. According to the Washington County Jail’s web site, Mathieu was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment

Mathieu was a member of the football team and he was on the Dean’s list in the spring.

Christine Kindl, director of communications and public relations for the university, said Monday that Mathieu has been suspended from the football team indefinitely while this incident is investigated.

“All Cal U students, including student athletes, are expected to abide by the Student Code of Conduct, which applies whether they are on or off campus,” Kindl said in a statement. “This incident will be addressed not only by the team, but also through the university’s discipline process.”

Mathieu was arraigned and placed in Washington County Jail on a $30,000 straight cash bond.
