Police seek gasoline thieves
State police are asking for help from the public to identify suspects accused of racking up more than $30,000 in gasoline charges on a stolen Fayette County credit card.
Trooper Thomas B. Broadwater said in April 2012, the Fayette County Public Works Department reported a credit card used to fuel a county recycling truck had either been lost or stolen.
Broadwater said that a county employee reported the card missing, but the card was not canceled.
Over the next year, Broadwater said someone continued to use the card to make fuel purchases at Pacific Pride-owned service stations across Fayette and Greene counties totaling $31,173.
He said that the suspects used the card to purchase more than 9,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel during that time.
County officials are mum regarding the alleged theft.
“Due to an ongoing investigation, we are declining to comment at this time,” Chief Clerk Amy Revak said Wednesday.
Broadwater said officers were able to obtain multiple surveillance pictures of suspects refueling at local gas stations.
In one surveillance image the suspects are captured filling large containers in the bed of a pickup truck with fuel. In several pictures, the suspects are seen refueling pickup trucks, and in other photos the suspects are seen refueling a two-door silver sedan.
Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to call police at 724-439-7111 or call Fayette County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-404-TIPS.
