Veronica D. (Saluga) Semachko
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the death of Veronica D. (Saluga) Semachko, age 97, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., who entered eternal rest on Monday, September 9, 2013.
Born in Lemont Furnace, Pa., on April 22, 1916, Veronica was the daughter and last born of the late Catherine (Valencik) and Anthony Saluga.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike Semachko; six brothers, Joseph, Stephen, John, Frank, Anthony and Michael Saluga and three sisters, Katherine Fordyce, Maria Fiffick and Sophia Saluga and two sons-in-law, Stanley L. Potkul and Marvin F. Mitchell.
‘Virgie’, as she was known by relatives and friends, was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo at the Hopwood Social Hall, and listening to country and polka music.
Veronica was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Jean Potkul of Hopwood, Pa., Patricia Ann Mitchell of Penrose, Colo., and Vincent A. Semachko of Lemont Furnace, Pa.
She was a wonderful grandma to 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Father Ron, Dr. Vanek and the staff at Uniontown Hospital and the Golden Living Center.
Family and friends will be received at the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning until 9:30 a.m. when a Blessing will be said. Divine Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Ronald Larko as Celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Hopwood.
Paristas Services will be said this evening at 7:00 p.m in the funeral home.
