Connellsville police recover $23,000 worth of illegal drugs
A search warrant executed by Connellsville police on Wednesday uncovered a substantial amount of illegal drugs.
Connellsville police said they recovered a large amount of cash along with a gallon size bag of heroin and cocaine and three guns at 8:36 p.m. at 53 Gibson Terrace.
One of the two juveniles at the residence were armed when officer entered the home, police said.
According to police, needles, along with scales and makeshift tourniquets were also found. Additionally, police said they recovered 955 individual does of heroin along with one large bag and one small bag of cocaine. Police said the street value of the seized drugs is approximately $23,000.
“I’ve seen bigger (drug busts), but this is one of the biggest we’ve seen for quite a while,” said Connellsville Police Chief Jim Capitos.
He added that $23,000 worth of heroin is “a lot of heroin.”
“There’s enough there to kill a lot of people,” he said. “And that doesn’t count what they had already sold.”
Police said information for the search warrant was obtained a short time earlier during a vehicle stop for a motor violation. According to police, they found drugs in the vehicle.
“If we had not made the vehicle stop, it would be out in the city, or out in the surrounding area,” Capitos said.
Capitos said the juveniles, both 17 and both from McKeesport, were arrested were placed in the Westmoreland County Detention Center. He said they were charged with Act 64 violations, and weapons violations.
The investigation is continuing, and police said additional arrests are expected.
“There’s still a lot more work to do,” he said. “There’s a whole lot more involved with this.”
